Following a flood one of the most important aspects is making sure that your building is dry. There are a number of reasons why you should employ the right contractor to carry out this work but the most important are to reduce what is known as secondary damage and to ensure that mould and mildew cannot develop.

For our processes to work quickly it is important that we recognise and remove barriers to the drying process. These barriers are simply any material which is water resistant that may cover a material which is NOT water resistant and will retain water when an area floods.
An example of this is common kitchen or bathroom lino. Underneath the lino would be either wooden floorboards or concrete, both of which are porous materials and will hold water in the event of a flood. It is important therefore to strip these out before commencing the drying process as these will inhibit drying.
As part of our service a technical expert will visit your property weekly (or daily depending on the severity of the flood), to ensure that the building is drying correctly and to expectation. We use specialist moisture measurement equipment to provide a scientific assessment and result that we can track. This will be a figure which will tell us how wet a surface is in a number format. As the readings reduce we know that the surface is drying, it’s that simple but it allows us to keep the costs of drying to a minimum for our clients as we can off-hire our drying equipment quickly once the numbers show that drying is complete.
We also provide a flood report and once we have completed the building drying we can produce a drying certificate which will demonstrate that a professional contractor has verified that all drying work has been carried out correctly and completed allowing the redecoration and re-instatement work to commence.

Flood to a Flat Surface Without Water Damage to Void Areas
Where a flat area has been flooded, and where water has not entered any recess areas (under floors or void spaces for example), the best method of drying is to install industrial Arida dehumidifiers and turbo-fan air units. This operation will circulate moisture from the surface of the flooded material into the air. The dehumidifiers then condense the wet air and remove the water content recycling ‘dry-air’.
Persistent Flooded Area or Section of a Building
Difficult to dry wet ‘patches’ can firstly be identified by thermal imaging, or they may be obvious and seen by eye. Usually a persistent wet area will be the source of the flood and the first thing to do is to make sure that the source of the water leak has been capped or stopped.
Once this is done we can carry out target drying using a tenting system which focuses and intensifies the drying to that specific area. This will draw out significant quantities of water over a shorter time frame and would frequently be used in conjunction with the above system.
Potential risks to your health
Certain hazardous waste such as bio-hazardous material or chemicals (including oil and diesel) are at the best irritants and at the worst could cause very serious illness if exposed to or ingested.

Flooding to Void Areas or Under Floors
Water will always find its path of least resistance and will follow gravity until it reaches its low point at which it cannot travel any further. Frequently floods may result from a high point where the potential energy of the water is great. For example water stored in a roof tank has a high potential energy due to the energy imparted to it by gravity if the tank holding the water was to fail.
In cases where water travels down a building it will find its way into void areas, whether this is ceiling voids, under floors, lift shafts or wall cavities.
This presents a more complex drying challenge and in these cases we use the latest drying techniques to ensure these difficult to reach areas are dried successfully. Desiccant dehumidifiers and targeted air movement directed into the void space in conjunction with heat is the only way to ensure that drying is complete.
