SafeGroup has the expertise and experience to use a range of highly effective techniques to carry out external structure cleaning, including pressure washing and soda blasting.
Safe working practice is key to our success, given that in some cases, we will be working at height or in difficult environments. Tasks we frequently carry out include graffiti removal, soot remediation and surface restoration.
Buildings and other structures, for example bridges, can be contaminated with a wide range of dirt, grime and pollutants, which need to be removed to protect substrates and restore visual amenity.
Soot from fires, industrial processes or vehicle exhaust, graffiti left by vandals and bird guano are just a few of the contaminants SafeGroup teams are commissioned to remove across the UK.
We use the latest technology and, where necessary, advanced chemical cleaning products, along with our many years’ of expertise to carry out external structure cleaning safely and to a very high standard.
SafeGroup delivers this specialist cleaning service for a wide range of clients, including construction contractors, building conservation companies, highway asset managers, property landlords, housing associations, FM specialists and retailers. We have worked with some of the nation’s most recognisable names including; The NHS, Nando’s & Savills.
As a highly-agile emergency cleaning specialist, we can respond rapidly, often on the same day, if a contamination issue is causing severe problems like offensive or highly visible graffiti. We also work with main contractors to carry out planned structure cleaning, for example to support facilities management PPM programmes.
SafeGroup will deploy structure cleaning techniques that are best suited for the task in hand. For example, for smaller projects to remove graffiti, especially in constrained public spaces we will use steam pressure washing. For larger areas, and where after-fire clean-up is required, we can carry out soda blasting.
Steam pressure washing and soda blasting are highly sustainable cleaning methods. Steam pressure washing can be carried out without the use of chemicals. Soda blasting is a non-destructive technique and, unlike sandblasting, does not generate large amounts of waste. Risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) are agreed for all structure cleaning project.
As a highly-agile emergency cleaning specialist, we can respond rapidly, often on the same day, if a contamination issue is causing severe problems like offensive or highly visible graffiti.
We use a towable steam pressure washing system that delivers super-heated water jetting power up to 207 bar (3,000psi) which is more than a match for any spray paint graffiti.
As our equipment can be towed by a pick-up truck or van, combined with long jetting hoses, it can be operated in difficult-to-reach locations.
Hand-held lance jetting makes light work of cleaning walls. While, other attachments can be used to quickly clean floors, roads and pavements.
Safety is of paramount concern. Our operators use the latest PPE to protect themselves and set up full barrier systems, supported by hazard signage, to contain worksites and protect other workers and the public.
In this way, steam pressure washing is ideal for cleaning retail facades, public spaces in facilities like railway stations and airports, and communal areas in social housing, for example corridors and staircases.
If necessary, detergents or other cleaning chemicals can be added to enhance the cleaning process.
Soda blasting involves using compressed air to deliver sodium bicarbonate (in the kitchen it is called baking powder) from a blast nozzle onto the surface that needs to be cleaned.
As operating pressures are lower and soda is much softer, it is a milder form of abrasing blasting than sand or shot blasting. The soda crystals fragment on impact, exploding contaminate from surfaces, without damaging substrates.
Because of this, our teams can use soda blasting on a wide range of materials, including metals such as steel, aluminium, iron and copper, as well as all types of wood and masonry. It is also highly-effective for removing organic contaminants like mould.
Soda blasting is effective for the removal of oil and other petroleum-based products, graffiti and for stripping varnish. Because it deodorises as well as cleans, it is particularly useful for removing soot during fire damage clean-ups.
