Representatives from WasteSafe Services attended the annual Keep Britain Tidy Network conference in Brighton.

The conference provides a platform for land managers, service and solution providers to drive up standards in public places on a national and local level.

Fly tipping affects everyone in the community

WasteSafe Services is a member of the Keep Britain Tidy Network and values the innovative approaches the charity has developed to reduce the amount of littering and fly tipping in the UK. The charity’s #crimenottocare fly tipping campaign encourages residents to do the right thing with their rubbish – and to understand that giving waste to a rogue trader who takes their money and then fly tips their waste is illegal.

If their waste is found dumped, even by someone else, they are responsible for the crime.
Fergus Healy, WasteSafe Services Director, said: “In the last six months alone, we have been called in for the emergency collection of many hundreds of tonnes of fly-tipped waste – including the UK’s worst ever fly tip, 499 tonnes of waste removed from a site in Hertfordshire, some of it hazardous asbestos.

“Unlicensed carriers and fly tipping is a huge issue for us as a professional and fully-accredited emergency waste collection service. We ask all householders to check the credentials of anyone who offers to remove waste.”

Highest levels of waste collection service and accreditation

WasteSafe Services maintains the highest service standards and levels of accreditation: it is classified as an upper tier waste carrier by the Environment Agency and holds registration with the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency to carry category 1, 2 and 3 ABP waste.

The company specialises in emergency waste collection, which means operators are on call 365 days a year to deal with emergency waste events from fly-tipped hazardous waste to commercial freezer breakdowns and sewage leaks.

“It is immensely satisfying to clear a fly-tipped site, returning it to its former beauty, but it would be better for the environment if it didn’t happen at all,” said Fergus Healy.

WasteSafe Services only works with trusted waste treatment facilities and recycling plants that operate in the most environmentally-friendly way possible, processing waste to turn it into energy, or for it to be recycled into other products. All WasteSafe Services disposal solutions are digitally tracked and recorded.
