CleanSafe sent in a specialist smoke damage cleaning team after a blaze broke out at a bungalow that had just been refurbished.
Work on the two-bed property had almost been completed when an extractor fan above the cooker in the kitchen caught fire, sending thick black smoke through the building.
The owner of the bungalow, in north London, called CleanSafe Services to carry out a complete smoke damage clean, restoring the property to its original condition.
CleanSafe Services Account Manager Jane Robertson, based at the company’s London branch, in Croydon, handled the project. She visited the site to see for herself the scale of the smoke damage.
Then she put together a detailed quote. It explained how a team of trained smoke damage cleaning and recovery specialists would carry out the work needed on the bungalow.
The work was carried out in two phases. First specialist hepa filter vacuum cleaners were used to suck up loose soot. Then, CleanSafe operatives concentrated on removing smoke residue from walls, flooring and ceilings.
Special soot sponges were used to carry out the cleaning. Sanitising agent was used to kill bacteria. A smoke damage cleaning agent helped remove soot from hard surfaces.
Finally, thermal fogging was used. This process fills each room with a vaporised deodorising agent that interacts with microscopic particles that create unpleasant odours, neutralising the smell.
Once the work was complete, a certificate of cleanliness was issued.
Jane Robertson said: “A fire in any property can be devastating. One of the worst aspects for property owners is contemplating the process of cleaning and fire recovery. It can be daunting.
“That’s where we come in. The fire in the property was not extreme by our standards. But we used the same specialist smoke damage cleaning and recovery techniques as we always do, working through what is required methodically.
“With more extreme fires, we work with our sister company WasteSafe Services for the safe removal and legal disposal of all fire damaged items, such as fixtures and fittings, and furniture.
“We are also experienced at working directly with insurers. So clients obtain the best outcome if they have a fire. Our expertise and experience helps ensure their insurers approve the correct fire damage recovery process.
“It is about providing individuals and commercial organisations with peace of mind. They know they can get on with other aspects of overcoming difficulties caused by the fire, while concentrate on smoke damage cleaning duties.”
