Soda blasting - soot removal, Bristol

SafeGroup used soda blasting to clean a bridge over the M5 after an arson attack.

The fire had left the underside the flyover covered in soot contaminated with toxic lead and zinc. Soda blasting uses compressed air to blast a surface with soda crystals. The soda crystals fragment on impact, forcing contaminates from surface. Soda blasting is carried out at relatively low pressures so there was no risk of the bridge being damaged and contaminants were contained.
